Margaret Ann Fleming
November 7, 1934 – August 13, 2015

What can you say about your mom? That she was beautiful? Intelligent? That she loved her family? And her great-grandbabies were the light of her life? That she loved her dog "Solo" and the many other dogs before him? Yes you could say all these things but that would only be a small drip in a huge bucket of what an amazing mom she was.

Margaret, "Ann" to her friends passed away peacefully on Thursday August 13, 2014 at home with her family by her side.

Ann was born in Great Dunmow, England and as a little girl, survived air raids as the Germans flew overhead on their way to bomb London. At age 17, she met Howard Fleming, fell in love and married on September 5, 1953. They had a beautiful baby boy, Steven, August 13, 1954 and came to America in 1956. Cindy was born in Texas in 1957 and then the family moved to Vandenberg AFB, CA. in 1958. In 1959 they added their last baby girl, Laurie. In 1963 (with much pride) Ann became and American Citizen. From 1965 until her retirement in 2004, Ann worked in communications at VAFB starting as a telephone operator and then retiring as a Communication Supervisor with INDYNE. She received many awards and accommodations, one of them being "Telephone Operator of the Year" for the entire United States Air Force.

Ann loved showing dogs (Afghan Hounds) and had several champions. She was a past member of the Afghan Hound Club of California and Lompoc Valley Kennel Club. She so loved her dogs and they all became members of her family. After retirement, Ann could often be found sitting in the sun reading one of her many books.

Ann lost her son Steven who passed away in 1969 and her husband, Howard in 2005.

Ann had two of the most wonderful son-in-laws. Cindy's husband Bill Schwenk and Laurie's husband Ron Allison. She was often heard telling how she was blessed to have these two men d come into her family and loved them as her own sons.

Ann loved and was loved by her grandson Chris Schwenk, his lovely wife Sarah and the loves of her life, their three children (Ann's great-grandchildren) Donavan, Merrick and Hirie.

Ann also had a granddaughter whom lives in Tennessee. Heather Miniken who blessed her with three great grandchildren Macey, Mallory and Bennett.

Ann is survived by her brother David Green of Great Dunmow, England his wife Maureen and their two children Emma and Stuart. We would also like to mention the "other" daughter Kelly Moore. Dear friend of the family and part of so many family functions.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Margaret to Central Coast Hospice, 253 Granada Drive Suite D San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
