A funeral mass for Margaret Mary Miranda, 76, of Lompoc, will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook celebrating. Inurnment will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012
Margaret was born November 24, 1935 in Georgia to Robert and Bertha McLaughlin. She attended St. Vincents Academy in Savannah and graduated in 1953. She married her loving husband Richard Miranda on January 10, 1954 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She located to Lompoc in 1958. For 19 years, she was employed by the Lompoc Record as the Life Styles Editor, and most recently with the Lompoc Unified School District from 2001 to 2010 in administration. However, she will be remembered by her family and friends as a devoted mother and homemaker for the last 58 years. Over the years, she was a member or had an association with La Purisima Catholic Church, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Alpha Club, Lompoc Mural Society, Lompoc Flower Festival Association, and the Lompoc Valley Historical Society. Her favorite pastimes included cooking, hiking, walking marathons, and hosting celebrations of any sort.
She died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her home.
Survivors include her husband Richard; daughters, Janis Holliday, Mary Edwards, Veronica Miranda and Diane Miranda; and son, Robert Miranda. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia McLaughlin.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
