May 31, 1928 – July 15, 2018
On Sunday, July 15, 2018, the Lord called Margaret Florence (Harrel) Torres, by name, to be with Him in Heaven. Words cannot express how much she was loved. She will now reside with her husband and family in God's glorious kingdom. She went peacefully, in her sleep, and was happy until her final day.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore "Teddy" Torres. He was the love of her life.
Born May 31, 1928, to the late Gordon and Mary Harrel (of Ada, Oklahoma), she is survived by her brother Dr. Richard Harrel and his wife Beverly Harrel. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Minnie Lou and her brother Gordon Franklin Harrel. Margaret is also survived by her children Sherie Vest, Marilou O'Louglin, Jayson Grimmer, Danny Torres, Sr., and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
A special acknowledgment to her daughter Sherie Vest and husband Jim Vest for all the support and loving care they provided in her final years This allowed her to maintain her independence and remain in her home until her final day.
Florence went to Horace Mann High School and then East Central Teacher's College in Ada, Oklahoma. She began her teaching career in 1952 in Texas. She taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. She loved being a teacher, and she loved children. She taught at Fillmore Elementary School in Lompoc, California, for many years.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved to crochet blankets for family. Her hobbies included swimming, reading (an avid reader!), word search books, Hallmark movies and playing piano. She took piano lessons for 14 years and had a passion for music. She loved her hometown, Lompoc, California, and was a regular at the local library. She always chose to be happy and greeted others with a big smile. Her love and sweet spirit will forever remain in our minds and hearts.
Her service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 12:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Lompoc Public Library.
