IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Leck
Warrick
June 4, 1955 – April 21, 2023
Margaret Leck Warrick was born on June 4, 1955, in The Dalles, Oregon and passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, in Lompoc, California at the age of 67.
As a child, Margaret, whom we called Peggy, lived in several towns in Oregon before her father took a job in 1960 as a teacher and the head football coach at Lompoc High School. Peggy did all of her primary and secondary education in Lompoc, graduating from Lompoc High School in 1973. After high school Peggy attended both Allan Hancock College and Cuesta College before she went on to finish her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1979.
While a student in college, Peggy married James (Jim) Warrick. They began their life together as students at Cal Poly and eventually moved back to Lompoc. Peggy took a job in Santa Barbara working for Burroughs Corporation. After two years with Burroughs, Peggy was hired by the City of Lompoc and worked in their Information Technology Department. In 1983, Peggy went back to Cal Poly as a Graduate Assistant Student and taught part-time while completing her Master's Degree in Computer Science in 1984. Shortly after this, she was hired by Allan Hancock College and began a 30-year career teaching in the Business Department, culminating in several years as the Business Department Chairperson.
Peggy's greatest joys were travel, friends and most importantly, family. She and Jim traveled extensively around the country and the world. They visited five continents, including seeing North America from Panama in the south to Canada and Alaska in the north. Several trips to Europe, Asia and South America were also vacations they enjoyed together and just this past February, with 8 other members of her family, she spent three weeks in Australia and New Zealand. With friends that she has known since her childhood in Lompoc and others she got to know from her professional life, she and Jim were able to tour places like China, Russia, Mexico and Hawaii.
Peggy's greatest pleasure was undoubtedly her family. One of 9 children, Peggy cherished her life in a large and sometimes crazy family. She was always able to remember and tell stories of growing up in a family so large and she couldn't imagine it any other way. After she was married to Jim, they had 4 children and 8 grandchildren. She loved to visit each of them and welcomed all of them to her home at any time. She loved to shop for both birthday and Christmas presents and never missed making her famous "Green Cake" for their birthdays. She would read stories or play games or even watch "Big Trucks" for hours on end with the little ones. She had such great energy that seemed endless when it came to spending time with her "babies". She will always be remembered for the love that she had for each and every member of her family.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Jim, her children and their families: Jackie and Jorge Cordova and their sons Jaeden and Luke; Joe and Holly Warrick and their sons Jameson and Tripper; Flynn and Josh Pehle and their daughters McCall and Dakota; Lexie and Beau Mabery and their son Bronson and daughter Vienna. She is also survived by her mother: Shirley Leck, siblings: Mike Leck (Maryann), Nancy Joyal (Steve), Mary Leach (Stan), Dan Leck (Maureen), Cathy Romain (Kirk), Sarah Leck, Leslie Leck and Ralph Leck (Ann). In addition, Peggy is survived by 80 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Leck.
