Vigil services for Maria T. Castillo, 94, of Watsonville, California and formerly of Lompoc, will be 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Castillo was born April 23, 1915 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jesus and Valeria Maldonado Tarango. Maria moved to Lompoc in 1990 from Salinas, California. She later moved to Watsonville to be closer to her daughters. Maria throughout the years was active with the Catholic Church. She was a lifelong homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, and precious friend. All who knew her will dearly miss her.
She died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Watsonville Community Hospital.
Survivors include her daughters, Margarita Castillo and Maria Castillo, both of Watsonville; son, Nick T. Castillo of Yorba Linda, California; grandchildren, Nicolas Ryan Castillo and Kaitlin Alise Castillo. Her husband Atanacio Castillo preceded her in death in 1995.
Visitation hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
