Vigil services for Maria Inez Soto, 82, of Lompoc, will be 5 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John Fitzgerald presiding. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Maria died Friday, November 19, 2010 at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria.

Maria was born February 14, 1928, in Georgetown, Texas to Jose and Anastasia Dominguez. Following her marriage in South Dakota, she has been a resident of Lompoc since 1942.

A lifelong homemaker, Maria regularly attended church at La Purisima and Queen of Angels in Lompoc. She loved to embroider, make quilts and take care of her grandchildren. She was an avid doll collector, enjoyed her roses and iris garden and liked camping especially at Yosemite and Bass Lake.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband Roman Soto in 1984. She is survived by her daughter Esther "Teddy" (Paul) Childs of Lompoc, son Raymond D. Soto of Lompoc, daughter Catalina (John) Skolnik of Pennsylvania, daughter Vela Herrera of Paso Robles, son Ruben (Rebecca) Soto of Lompoc, daughter Genie D. Soto of Lompoc, daughter Theresa D. Soto of Lompoc, sister Aurora Escalante of Lompoc, brother Don Dominguez of Las Vegas, Nevada, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved faithful pets, Pete, Rocky, and Patches. She was also preceded in death by her brother John Dominguez, sister Gloria Dominguez and her son-in-law Frank Herrera.

Visitation hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
