Marian Lulu Barkey Christensen former resident of Lompoc was called home to be in heaven on April 20, 2020, at the age of 100.

Marian was born on March 11, 1920, in Haxtun, Colorado to Frank and Bell Barkey. She Attended Highland Center Elementary School, a two-room schoolhouse, and then graduated from Haxtun High and Colorado State College with a teaching credential. She taught in Denver starting in 1947. Her Colorado credential gave her the opportunity to substitute teach in Watts in Los Angeles, Erie, PA, and Hapgood Elementary School in Lompoc until the age of 68.

Marian married Irving Christensen on Valentine's Day in 1947. They moved to Lompoc in 1978.

Marian was a member of the First Methodist Church in Lompoc along with being President of the Alpha Club, a member of the Late Bloomers at Lompoc Half Century Club, and a member of the Widow and Widowers Social Club. She also enjoyed the annual flower show and won ribbons and medals for some of her entries. She also participated in Line Dancing, a Kazoo Band, and pottery classes while living in Lompoc. Singing brought her joy and she sang solos on Wednesday nights in Fullerton.

Highlights in her life were riding in a white convertible for the 2013 Lompoc Festival, for the Meridian of Lompoc as the senior queen. She also traveled to Russia, Germany and saw the Swiss Alps and Hawaii to see her son Jack and his family.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, 1954, and by her husband Irving in 1990. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Del Shotwell and her grandchildren Ryan, Kari, Jason and his wife Emilee Shotwell of California, and her son Jack and daughter in law Jill and his children Anna, Alex, and Marie Christensen of Germany. She was an aunt of 19 nephews and nieces and their descendants.

The memorial service will be Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Starbuck-Lind at 9:00 am Interment Lompoc Cemetery District. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any of the organizations in Lompoc that Marian attended.
