Mariano, (Mars, Poppie), Masicampo of Lanai, Hawaii, passed away on May 22nd, 2024, in Lompoc, California. He had just celebrated his 87th birthday on the 21st, and his 66th wedding anniversary a few days before that. He is survived by his loving wife, Solidad Masicampo, whom he met at 5 years old. They started going steady in their sophomore year and were together until the day he passed. They were married in 1958 and have 5 children: Mark Masicampo, Gina Umipig, Marty Masicampo, Michael Masicampo, and Tommy Masicampo. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Malia Eigelbach, Rachel Foppiano, Isaac Masicampo, Kaipo Masicampo, Angelena Masicampo, Kulani Masicampo, Malia Ulloa, Kaili Masicampo, Monty Masicampo, Shane Galvin, Kady Galvin, SummerLynn Galvin, Connor Galvin and great-grandchildren: Liliana Calderon, Waylon Dougherty, Noah Hankins, Amber Eigelbach, Layla Goetz, Kaden Hankins, Sunny and Luna Pope, Wesley Ulloa Jr., Roland Dougherty, Kai Masicampo, Lincoln Masicampo, and Kaz Masicampo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Corazon Masicampo, his brothers, Fred and Richard Masicampo, and his sisters, Bobbie Kuhar and Geraldine Gangle.
He attended Lanai High School and Honolulu Technical School, after which he worked for Hawaiian Airlines as an aircraft engine mechanic. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958 working in the missile instrumentation field, at Hickam Air Force Base and Vandenberg Air Force Base, tracking launches, and eventually becoming Satellite Command Controller. After retiring from the Air Force, Mariano worked for Ford Aerospace, as Senior Operations Controller, and Loral Space and Range Systems as site supervisor. He spent his retirement years working as a slot machine technician for Chumash Casino.
He was a devout member of Queen of Angels Church in Lompoc, California for almost 50 years, and throughout his life enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, target shooting, jogging, Ham radio, and was a big fan of science fiction. He was much beloved and will be dearly missed, especially by his wife and those who called him Dad and Poppie.
