Obituary

Marie Jennie Kahler (Filburn, Walker) passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on July 7, 2022. Born August 30, 1936 in Philipsburg, NJ, she was 85.

She was preceded in death by her father Lewis (1994), her son Kevin Walker (2003), her mother Clara (2003), her husband Harry E Kahler (2010) and her grandson Shannon (Fuller) in 2012.

She is survived by her sons, Callen E Walker of Santa Maria, and Derek S Walker or Oxnard, a daughter, Lisa D Walker (Roseman) of Fort Bragg, CA, grandchildren Christopher Vargas,(Sun Valley, NV) Davina Liberty, (Eastsound, WA) Larissa Walker (Santa Maria, CA) and Florian Meyer of Germany as well as four great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Clara Van Horn of Florida, and brother Ed Filburn of Stockton, CA. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will always be remembered as a lover of travel, as she and Harry traveled to England, China, Russia, passed Cape Horn, and across the US in their RV, making 14 separate journeys to their favorite place, Yellowstone National Park. She also loved cats, California Scrub Jays, walks at La Purisima Mission, the La Purisima Mission Owls, Beatty Park, and around her neighborhood. She was a seamstress, sewing clothing, doing needlepoints, quilts and making doll dresses for the Dutch dolls sold in many a shop in Solvang, CA. She worked at Betty's Fabrics in Santa Maria for many years, as well as Hall of the Mountain King and Eidelweiss in Solvang, CA.

She left NJ in the 1950s to move to AZ with her father and brothers. She met and married her first husband, Pete S Walker there, and together they had two sons before moving to Vandenberg AFB, where she had her two other children.

In the 80s, she married the love of her life and moved to their house together in Lompoc, CA, where they spent their lives when they weren't traveling around the world and country.

She will be remembered for her nurturing ways and her orneriness. She had a full, long life and enjoyed many moments with her family and friends.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Sydney Greer, Julie Allen, Karen Dominguez and all who were involved in her care.

Arrangements for her memorial are being handled by Starbuck-Lind Mortuary of Lompoc.

A memorial service at Starbuck-Lind will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 2PM.

Graveside burial services will be private and at another date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her memory, or to a fund for a memorial bench at Beattie Park, which was her favorite place to walk locally.
