Marie Antoinette "Nettie" Speers of Lompoc died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the age of 87.

Nettie was born February 27, 1925 in Warroad, Minnesota to Emma St Antoine and John James Bachtel. She was the third of six children. She lived with her family in Texas before moving to Santa Cruz, California

She married Marell E. Speers on March 18, 1944 in San Ardo, California. With his job in the United States Coastal Geological Survey they traveled many different places, even overseas. They had two daughters, Cynthia Ruth in 1951 and Peggy Ann in 1959. They all moved to Lompoc in 1962. Marie was widowed in 1963.

Marie worked for Montgomery Wards before becoming a partner for Signal Gas Station. She was an independent dealer with S&S 400 gas until 1976. After that she worked in Solvang at the Music Box until her retirement in 1991. She was a longtime member at North Avenue Baptist Church.

Marie is survived by her daughter Peggy Baldwin of Lompoc, two grandchildren, Denise Sitzler (Mike) Cain and Thomas Marrell Baldwin, three great grandchildren, Desiree Bruns, Johh Lemen and Makayla Cain. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cindy and her siblings Dennis, Alfred (Pete), Anne, Ruth and Agnes.
