IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Sue
Mayer
November 6, 1943 – September 8, 2025
Marilyn Sue Mayer was born on November 6, 1943, to Robert and Sara (Ory) Allison in San Angelo, Texas. Her dad wanted all his daughters (Bobbie, Janis, and Sue) to be born in Texas. Then off to the beautiful northwest, Spokane, WA. Sue graduated from Mead High School in 1962, and graduated in 1965 from St. Luke's School of Nursing, making all three daughters Registered Nurses.
She met a tall, shy airman, stationed at Fairchild AFB, tall, yes, shy no, fell in love with Fred Mayer from Nebraska. We spent time in Little Rock, Ark., and Vandenberg AFB, CA. Practiced nursing in Little Rock and Lompoc, CA.
In between working and being a wife, she gave birth to two wonderful sons, Robert in 1968 (Little Rock, AR) and Cade in 1972 (VAFB, CA). What a joy they have been.
Sewing the boys' polo shirts and pants while they were younger was a good way to keep growing boys in clothes. A self-taught crocheter, she was able to produce blankets for the newest additions to the Mayer family.
While in Lompoc, she became certified as a perioperative nurse through the National Organization of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). She was instrumental and one of the co-founding nurses who organized a chapter of AORN in Santa Barbara County. She was honored to be Chapter President several times. In 1981, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Chapman College. Her career as an RN ranged from Neurology nursing, Phlebotomist for American Red Cross in Little Rock, AR, to Peri-Operative Nursing for 25 years. The last 22 years were spent at Lompoc District Hospital.
Retired from the nursing profession in 2001, and was able to do what she wanted, when she wanted, and if she wanted.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Allison (1961) and Sara (Ory) (Allison) Weldert in 1988. Her sister Bobbie Faye in 1974, her sister Janis in 2021, and her daughter-in-law Nikki in 2020.
Survived by her husband Fred of 60 years, sons Robert (Katrina) of South Carolina, Cade of Florida, two beautiful granddaughters, Letda and Savannah, many nieces and nephews.
There will be an openhouse Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the family home; 1001 Conception Drive, Lompoc, California.
