Marjorie Marie Jancek of Lompoc died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the age of 92.
Marjorie was born February 27, 1923, to Herman and Marie Battey in Utica, New York. She was raised and educated in Utica schools, graduating from St. Elizabeth's College of Nursing in Utica in 1941. She joined the United States Army and served as a nurse in the Philippine Islands during World War II. During her service she met and married her husband Edward Jancek. After the war they settled in Hackensack, New Jersey.
A resident of Lompoc since 1965. Marjorie continued her career in nursing as a staff nurse at Lockheed Martin at Vandenberg Air Force Base, retiring the mid-1970s. She was an avid reader and spent many hours of her free time as a volunteer at the Vandenberg Village Public Library. Marjorie loved crafts of all kinds, especially anything involving needlework. If one observed her quilts, doll houses or anything she made, it was apparent her favorite color was red. She also enjoyed baking and cooking.
Marjorie was a faithful member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and attended the daily mass. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters and their husbands Donna Marie and Charles Bradley of Santa Barbara; Mary Margaret and Rick Hofeld of Lompoc; Alane Denise and Robert Bumatay of Lompoc and her daughter-in-law Mary Marie Jancek of Lompoc. She is alsurvived by seven grandchildren, Carolyn Michelle DeBoni, Rebecca Hansen, Megan Richards, Robert Alex Bumatay, Jason M. Bumatay, Claire Hofeld and Joshua S. Hofeld. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward S. Jancek in 1991 and her son Stephen Jancek in 2010.
The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am on Friday, February 26, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The interment will be at 2 pm in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
