IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marlene Agnes
Bremer
July 12, 1936 – October 11, 2024
Marlene Agnes Bremer has gone home to be with Jesus, reuniting with loved ones. After a long, courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis and nearly three years in hospice care, she died peacefully at home on October 11, 2024, at the wonderful age of 88.
Marlene was born July 12, 1936, in Oakwood Township, Minnesota to Doris (Haney) and Byrl Holzer, one of 11 children. She attended Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After graduating she worked in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, where she met lifelong friends and the love of her life, Melvin Bremer. Mel and Marlene married in 1957. While Mel was in the U.S. Air Force, they lived in Washington D.C, Aurora, CO, and Wichita, TX, then at Vandenberg Air Force Base. When Mel retired, they settled in Lompoc, CA, and built their family home, where memories are still being made 50 years later. Marlene worked at the Vandenberg Federal Credit Union for several years before early retirement, during which she enjoyed growing roses and gardening, feeding her beloved hummingbirds, sewing, and hosting friends and family for bridge and holiday gatherings. She was active at Queen of Angels Catholic Church and was a member of the Lompoc PEO sisterhood organization. She was caring, welcoming, and a friend to all.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving husband Mel Bremer, and children, Kathryn Bremer of Tumacácori, AZ, Karyn (Mike) Griffin of Chesterfield, MO, Kay (Tom) Shelton of Dallas, TX, and Bryan (Stephanie) Bremer of Atascadero, CA; six grandchildren Alex and Kyle Griffin, Jacob and Sara Shelton, Joshua and Brielle Bremer; three great grandchildren Harper, Connor, and Wesley Griffin; siblings Grace Purdy, Joyce Murphy, Tom (Bonnie) Holzer, Dennis (Deb) Holzer, David (Jeannie) Holzer, Chuck Holzer, Cheryl (Tom) Teff, and Pam Mumaw; niece-in-law Kimberly (Steven) Yurisich; and many more wonderful relatives. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Byrl and Doris, brother Larry Holzer, and sister Ardie Holzer.
A family graveside service will be held on October 18, 2024. Memorials may be made to Queen of Angels Church (3495 Rucker Rd, Lompoc, CA 93436), PEO (PEOinternational.org), or a charity of your choice.
An incredible wife and mother who blessed us all with her love and wisdom, she lived a rich and full life surrounded by family and friends. We love you so much. Rest in peace until we meet again. "Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace."
