Marlene “Karin” Ann Keys passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the age of 85.

Karin was born December 31, 1940, and was raised by Lawrence and Cecelia “Kate” (Reinert) Waddell in Mott, North Dakota.

Karin married Gene Keys on December 22, 1961, in North Dakota. They moved around a few times due to Gene’s military career before finally settling down in Lompoc, CA in 1973. She had a passion for gardening, the Dodgers, and bowling. She had been a Hallmark cards representative for over 20 years, servicing many of the local stores.

Karin, is survived by her daughter Melissa Upright and grandson R.J. Upright of Orcutt. One brother Jim Waddell of Idaho and 31 nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, son Steven Keys, 3 brothers Jerry, Larry & Lester and 1 sister Lorraine.

In honor of her request, no services will be held. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment. The arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
