Lompoc native Marta M. Gilbert died Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the age of 69.
Marta was born June 18, 1940 in Lompoc to Paolo and Maddalena Pasquini. After graduating from Lompoc High School with the class of 1958 she attended Allan Hancock College. She was briefly employed at the Bank of America but spent most of her career as an administrative assistant with ITT Federal Electric. She retired in 1996 after 30 years of employment.
Marta was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy Lodge, the Italian Catholic Federation, and the Lompoc Museum. She remained active after her retirement walking, dancing and practicing yoga.
Marta is survived by her son and his wife Gene and Colleen Margheim of Lompoc, her sister and her husband Katy and Dick Atkinson of Santa Ynez, her sister Angie Pasquini of Lompoc, and her nephew Richard Atkinson of Danville, and two great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7 pm with the evening vigil at 5 pm on Sunday, September 13, in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary led by Monsignor John Fitzgerald. Father Tom Cook will celebrate the mass of Christian burial on Monday, September 14, at 10 am at La Purisima Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Lompoc Cemetery. Marta's family suggests that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
