Obituary

Martha passed away peacefully in her home after lengthy illnesses. Martha grew up in West Los Angeles, CA, and attended University High School. One of her favorite stories to tell was how Nancy Sinatra was in her gym class, and Beau Bridges sat behind her in Spanish class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mario Barajas. They moved to Lompoc in 1961. Martha was active with her 3 children (Connie, Mariano, and Alex) while they were in school. She was active with the PTA, where she earned the “Lifetime Member” award and was known as the “Hot Dog Lady” when her children attended Hapgood Elementary. Martha was also active with Mariano and Alex’s baseball and soccer teams as team mother. She was a Girl Scout leader with Connie. One year, she was the “Cookie Chairman,” and our garage was FULL of cases of Girl Scout cookies (thank goodness for the internet).

Martha was a true believer in our Lord and was active with the Catholic Daughters of America. She was the secretary on the “the angel tree” committee and the “Right to Life” committee. Her hobbies included watching sports on TV and writing. Martha even wrote and published a book about her life.

Martha had a love of family and was always hosting family events. Besides her 3 children, she had 4 grandchildren: Danielle, Kyle, Casey, and Haley. 8 Great Grandchildren: Kylie, Mason, Serenity, Tilton, Athena, Landon, Brantley, and due in June of 2026 Baby “Bee Bee”. Martha loved signing cards to her numerous nieces and nephews with “Love Aunt Martha, Great Aunt Martha, Great Great Aunt Martha, or Great Great Great Aunt Martha”! She will be missed by all who knew her.
