Martha Livingston Harris

The loving family of Martha Livingston Harris sadly announce her passing on December 15, 2015 at the age of 93, joining her beloved husband George William Harris and son Gregory William Harris.
Martha was born in Long Beach, Ca.
to Donald and Lillian Livingston.
She graduated at age 16 from Los Angeles High School with honors.
She graduated from the University of Southern California in 1943 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board member and member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. In her senior year at USC she met the love of her life and future husband, George William Harris, also a USC graduate.
Upon George's return from service as a first lieutenant with the Army's First Field Hospital in the Philippines during World War 11, the newly weds moved to Lompoc Ca. For several years Martha taught at Lompoc elementary school.
A 64 year resident of San Pedro, Ca.
Martha obtained her permanent high school and elementary teaching credentials while raising her family. She taught 35 years for the Los Angeles City school district at South Shores and Point Fermin Elementary schools before retiring.
Martha, Mrs. Harris, missed teaching and sharing the joy of reading to first graders and enjoyed substituting at San Pedro and Wilmington Park elementary schools for a number of further years. She also enjoyed traveling with George, visiting with family and friends and spending time with her precious granddaughter.
Martha is survived by her daughter Marcia Hart, son in law Brooke Hart, granddaughter, Alexandra Hart, caregiver, Lillian Marumoto, caring nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Our mom, grandma, aunt and friend was a person of great strength and bravery, but always, foremost, a lady.
She will be greatly and forever missed by all those who love her.

for their warm, loving care and support for Martha.
Graveside services will be held at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery on Monday, December 19th at 10:00am.
