Our beloved Martha Ann Arrington Sobieszczyk, 94, of Lompoc, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6th, surrounded by her loving family. Annie (Nana) was born on November 1st, 1931, to Samuel Dobbins Arrington and Kitty Willy Grady Mapp (Nana Kay) in High Point, North Carolina. Annie began her new life in North Carolina before moving to Detroit, Michigan. In 1942, Annie, her sister Dorothy (Dot) and Nana Kay moved to the Santa Ynez Valley and settled in Buellton. In 1945 they relocated to Shell Beach, where she graduated from San Luis Obispo High School.
Annie met and married Charles Troup and began her life as a military wife. In 1953 she had her first child William Craig while stationed in China Lake, CA. In 1955 while stationed in San Diego baby Laura Ann joined the family. Finally in 1960 while living in Simi Valley, son Daniel James joined the crew. Annie loved her three children with every fiber of her body and raised them with an abundance of love. In 1961 the family moved to the Lompoc Valley, settling in Mission Hills and beginning a new chapter of her life. After divorcing Chuck Troup, Annie began her professional life. She first worked as a salesclerk and a sales rep for Avon before pivoting to secretarial work at the local radio station in Lompoc. She was then hired by the Lompoc Unified School District and became a member of the classified office staff at Vandenberg Middle School where she found her calling as an administrative assistant and receptionist.
In 1968 she met the love of her life Captain Neal Sobieszczyk of the USAF and they were married in 1970 in the hamlet of Rough and Ready, CA. Settling back into Military life, Annie and Neal moved the family to Omaha, Nebraska and enjoyed mid-west living from 1971-1975. In 1975 Neal was ordered back to California and Vandenberg AFB. By 1981 Annie was back in the workforce, being hired by Lockheed Martin as a receptionist/executive assistant. She spent the next 16 years at Lockheed Martin before retiring in 1997. Annie was a member of the Alpha Club, the PEO Chapter NU, a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the First Christian Church in Lompoc. Her hobbies included travel, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, arts and crafts and playing bridge with her bridge buddies. Annie was an exceptionally kind, caring and compassionate woman who reveled in spending time with and taking care of her many friends and family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories by her loving family and friends.
Annie was predeceased by her father Sam Arrington, mother Kitty Gaskill, husband Neal Sobieszczyk, sister Dot Ruiz and daughter Laura Fantino. She is survived by: her sons Craig Troup (Lori) and Daniel Troup (Carrie), grandchildren Cara Zimmerman, Kristen Price, Kendra Baker, Kyle Troup and Sierra Troup. Great grandchildren Josef, Aiden, Corben, Carsen, Alexis, Blake, Tyler, Mason, Audrey and Evie and great great grandchildren Huntlee and Allie. She is also survived by her Templeton family, nieces Terri Franklin (Ed), Joni Dusi (Mike) and Toni Clevenger as well as numerous great nephews and nieces. Services are to be held on Saturday, July 18th at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary at 10:00 am.
