Marvin B. Douglas, Jr. of Santa Maria died Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the age of 89.
Marvin was born to Marvin and Violet Douglass on June 22, 1934, in Lompoc, California. He completed his education at Redondo Beach High School before joining the U.S. Navy. He served in the Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, during the Korean War.
He returned to Lompoc to work with his father as an appliance repairman at Douglass Repairs. A street west of Lompoc still bears the Douglass family name.
Marvin was an active member of the Knights of Pythias and a former commander of the WFW posts in Santa Maria and Guadalupe. He was well known for his barbeque skills among the local veterans' groups he served.
Marvin is survived by his son, William Bradley Douglass of Tulsa, Oklahoma. One of seven children, he is also survived by a brother Richard Douglass of Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania, and a niece Teri Morrow of Moreno Valley.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 5, at 1pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The interment with military honors will be Monday, November 6, at 10am in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
