Mary A. Craig (Harris)

Mary A. Craig, daughter of pioneer Lompoc residents, George W. Harris and Julia E. Harris, passed away in Santa Barbara on October 13, 2006. She was born in Lompoc May 10, 1917, and was a lifetime resident.

Mary attended Lompoc public schools and graduated from Lompoc High School class of 1935. She then attended Beauty College in Los Angeles. Upon completion of her training, she became a partner in a beauty shop business in Lompoc. In 1942 she married Harley A. Craig who became a prominent Lompoc realtor managing his own real estate office. Harley served his city in many ways, including that of city councilman.

Mary was a dedicated long time member of the First Baptist church of Lompoc, supporting its programs and outreach activities. She took a great interest in community affairs and her many friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling.

Mary is survived by her loving son Lawrence H. (Larry) Craig and his wife, Debra, of Lompoc, a brother George W. Harris Jr. and his wife, Martha of San Pedro. She leaves numerous loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mary was greatly loved by her family and friends and all will miss her.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the funeral service on Saturday, October 21 at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A St, Lompoc. Internment will be at Lompoc Cemetery following the service.
