A funeral mass for Mary Eakes will be 10 a.m. today at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary was born October 18, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas to Col. Herbert and Ruth Messer. She married Lt. Col. Raymond T. Eakes in July 1944. Earlier in her life, she had worked as a transcriber at the Lompoc Hospital and volunteered her time to the American Red Cross. Her favorite pastimes were sewing, crafts, swimming, and bowling.

She died Tuesday January 19, 2010 at the Villa Maria Healthcare Center in Santa Maria.

Survivors include her children, Connie Eakes, Kathleen Thompson, Raymond Eakes, Mark Eakes, Lois Bollinger and Christopher Eakes; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Susan.
