Obituary

Mary M. Gutierrez was born on June 18, 1948, in Edinburg, Texas to Jose Pilar and Casimira De Luna.

The De Luna family relocated from Texas to the Central Valley of California in the mid-1950s, where they harvested crops and attended elementary schools. This early upbringing instilled a lifelong character of servanthood and a diligent work ethic. Following seasonal crops, they relocated again to the Central Coast. The children attended local schools in Santa Maria and also worked with their parents, harvesting crops. Mary attended and graduated from Santa Maria High School class of 1967. She then met her future husband, James Gutierrez. They started their own family with their three sons Jimmy, David, and Robert. They followed their parent's footsteps in traveling around the state, harvesting seasonal crops in their first years of marriage. Through life's hiccups, Mary once again rejoined her parents and siblings, who relocated to Lompoc in 1978. Mary established herself in Lompoc by immediately finding work and enrolling her boys in school. Living in Lompoc for her was attending La Purisima Catholic Church, attending her sons' baseball games, doing lots of family functions, helping her parents and siblings in whatever they needed. Through the years, she continued to follow in her mother's footsteps in attending many conferences with her sisters and loved visiting the missions and cathedrals. Her strong faith in God made her the strong, loving woman that we all knew.

Mary was so excited when she was introduced to her first grandchild, Cheyenne "Her Sweetheart" Gutierrez. Later on, nine more grandchildren, three great grandsons, and four great granddaughters would be added to her joy. Her faith and family were everything to her. She instilled that in everyone she knew. She was known to many as Mom and Grandma Mary because she always welcomed so many to her home.

She enjoyed so many things, from family outings, crafts, Christmas, her enormous doll collection, baseball, cooking, trading recipes and sharing her famous dishes. Santa Barbara Fiesta Days with her sisters. She carried a great sense of pride for those, in our family, that served in the military. If she ever shared her faith, advice, a recipe, a chuckle, nickname or insult, please know that you were special to her. If you have a gift or something she crochet for you, keep it. She was an amazing woman. I don't know how God packed so much love and blessings in such a small person.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Pilar and Casimira De Luna, siblings Antonio, Gilbert, Jesse, and Olivia Solorio. She is survived by her Siblings, Jose (Sara) DeLuna, (Jesus)Maria del Refugio Garcia, (Juan) Maria Elena Morales. Her sons, Jimmy Jr, Gutierrez, David (Brandi) Gutierrez, and Robert Gutierrez. Her grandchildren Cheyenne Gutierrez, Brianna Terrones, Francisco Gutierrez, Gabe Gutierrez, Jimmy Gutierrez III, Victoria (Gonzalez), Eliana Gutierrez, Olivia Gutierrez, Jessie Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez. great grandsons, Ezra and Esai Figueroa, Jonah Curry. great granddaughters, Juliana, Gabriela, Vida, and Avyanna
