In Loving Memory of Mary M. Quinata
The world lost an angel today. Mary M. Quinata, age 87, of Palouse, WA, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 15, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born in Red Level, Alabama. She married Vicente T. Quinata on January 8, 1955. After spending four years stationed in Guam, the couple relocated to Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, in 1963. Mary then lived in Lompoc, CA, until July 2016, at which time she moved to Palouse, WA.
Mary had a deep passion for bowling. She actively participated in several bowling leagues, often traveling with her husband and friends to tournaments and events. Mary was especially proud to be a member of the 300 Club and cherished the recognition she received for bowling a perfect game.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary's life. She was known for her love of cooking and was frequently found cutting out recipes from magazines or searching through recipe books to find new dishes to prepare. She always took care to consider everyone's likes and dislikes, ensuring every family member's taste buds were satisfied.
Mary had a particular fondness for seafood, especially crab and shrimp, and she was always delighted to accept any offer for a crab and shrimp dinner.
Mary was remembered for her simple yet heartfelt gestures. She would often add fun stickers and a short note expressing her love on the envelope of a card before sending it. She regularly told her loved ones that she loved them, reminded them that she was thinking of them, and assured them she would always be there whenever they needed her. The soft words, "Goodnight. I love you," will continue to echo in the hearts of her family forever. She was truly an angel on earth and is now the Lord's.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vicente T. Quinata; her brother, William Josey; her sisters, Reaby McCutcheon, Marie Spicer, and Odessa McCart. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Kurta (Gary) of Palouse, WA; her sister, Carolyn Stephens (Steve) of Crestview, FL; and her grandchildren, Benjamin Quinata (Barbara), Nikomi Soza (David), and Niki Lane (Brent). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Cyenna, Nathan, Kiya, Kianau, DaviLee, Maesyn, and Brody.
A graveside service will be held at Lompoc Cemetery on October 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
