Obituary

Maud Ellen Kenworthy of Lompoc died Tuesday October 3, 2017, at the age of 95. Anne, as she was known, was born in Watford, England on March 28th,1922. At the age of 18, she volunteered to serve with the English Land Army to help with the World War II effort. After training, she was assigned to an anti-aircraft training facility. She manned the guns for several months in central London. She was eventually transferred for training to requisition supplies, food and manage dining facilities. Generals Eisenhower, Montgomery, Churchill and other dignitaries frequented her facility in London.

She met her future husband, William Gene Kenworthy, who was in the U.S. Air Force as she operated the Hotel Imperial in Rome, Italy for the Allied forces. Gene and Anne were married in Rome in 1948. Gene retired from the Air Force after his assignment at Vandenberg AFB in 1964. The couple continued to live in Lompoc until their deaths.

Anne was preceded in death by Gene and many family members in England. She is survived by her nieces Eileen Sabbage, Margaret Putman, Jillian Cerasale, and Sheila Okgood in England, and her nephew Roger Kenworthy and nieces Lynda Jean Molyneaux and Christine Kitchens as well as many loving friends in Lompoc.

Niche side services will be held 2pm Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to a charity of choice.
