Obituary

Maurice DeBacker was born in Harpster, Ohio, July 13, 1921 to Martha and Cyriel DeBacker. He married Evelyn Bunte February 3, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas.

Maurice served in the U.S. Army for four years. He fought with the 13th Armored Division in Patton's 3rd Army in Germany. Upon return he was stationed at Camp Cook, Lompoc. He was discharged from the Army in January of 1946.

Maurice worked for Garwood Industry in Detroit for 33 years until it closed in 1972. He then worked for Flat Rock Community Schools, Flat Rock, Michigan retiring in 1984. In 1991 he and Evelyn moved to Lompoc.

He was a life member of the Flat Rock Masonic Hiram Lodge #110 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #4093, Carleton, Michigan. He was a member of the Lompoc Sportsman's Association and the Vandenberg Rod and Gun Club.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, daughter Roberta Williams of Brownstown Township, Michigan, sons George (Melissa) DeBacker and son Michael (Carol) DeBacker of Lompoc, six grandchildren, Ted (Jill) Reeves of Zeeland, Michigan, Melanie (Jason) Hamilton of Traverse City, Michigan, Shannon (Shantia) Magui of Oregon, Julie DeBacker of Connecticut, Kevin DeBacker of New York City, and Tiffany DeBacker of Chico, California. Nine great grandchildren all in Michigan also survive him. The memorial service is pending.
