Memorial services for Mavis White, 87, of Lompoc, will be 9 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 at the North Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Robison officiating.
Mavis was born May 2, 1922 in Olanta, South Carolina to Don and Theresa Rose Graham. She was raised and educated in Turbeville, South Carolina, and belonged to the Beta Club during her formative years. Mavis helped the war effort by working as a Jr. mechanic during World War II. She moved to Lompoc 1961 with her family from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. Mavis worked several years as a civil service communication technician at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Over the years, Mavis also volunteered her time at the base hospital and retirement center and later completed her associate's degree at Allan Hancock Community College. Mavis belonged to the Valley of the Flowers Half Century Club and the North Avenue Baptist Church. She loved to walk and visit around her neighborhood.
She died Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Comprehensive Care Center in Lompoc.
Survivors include her sons, Gerald White of Lompoc, Robert White and his wife Tina of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Barry White of Santa Barbara; sister, Marion Paul of Chicopee, Massachusetts; brother, George Wyatt Graham of Sumter, S.C. and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. White, sisters, Murium Stewart, Mildred Green and Mattie Graham, and brother, Elvert Wilson Graham.
