May Letson of Lompoc passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the age of 89. She was born October 3, 1917 to the Baskerville family of Warrington, England. She came to the United States after WWII as the bride of US serviceman Charles Letson. She became a naturalized citizen in 1954. They were stationed at March Air Force Base, Norton Air Force Base and finally Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1958.
May co-owned the "This & That Shoppe" in Buellton and worked at the First Baptist Church in Lompoc as a secretary for many years. She was a member of the British Wives Club, and active in the Valley of the Flowers Half Century Club running the Bingo and Birthday Bingo programs. She enjoyed playing the piano.
May was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy and her husband Edward Koekebaker of Lompoc; daughter, Trudy, the wife of the late Robert Alexander of Buellton; four grandchildren, Carey May Koekebaker of Lompoc, James Edward Koekebaker of Lompoc, Robert Malcolm Alexander, III (Bobby) of Buellton, and Brian Charles Alexander of Buellton; and five great grandchildren, Selena Koekebaker, Devin Villalobos, Dallas Contreras, Alexandra Koekebaker, and James Koekebaker, Jr.
The funeral service will be on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary followed by interment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
