Michael Dewey Hurst

Born April 17, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois to James and Helen Hurst. Mike was a graduate of Lompoc Senior High, Class of 1976, and later earned an Associate's Degree.  Mike worked at the Lompoc Home Depot prior to his death on February 4, 2023. He really enjoyed working there and loved running into people he grew up with.

Mike loved the Lord, and was so grateful because he knew where he was going.  During his final days he was at peace and expressed gratitude to everyone around him for all their kindness, care, and compassion. He was thankful to his big brother James and wife Susan for all the love, concern, and time they spent with him, and to his sister Linda, for being with him his last few days showing the love and care that only a sister can give.

Mike had no regrets. He lived his life his way, and said several times "don't be sad for me, I had a good run, I'm not afraid, and I'm at peace".  Mike loved his friends and family so very much.  He will be missed, but never forgotten by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by His father James D. Hurst, mother Helen R. Hurst, and brother-in-law Stuart R. Wertman, as well as his best friend Lonnie Fleming.  He is survived by his stepmother Emma Hurst, brothers James D. (Susan) Hurst Jr. and Richard G. (Jan) Hurst, sister Linda R. Wertman, stepbrother Noel (Edda) Genova, nieces, nephews, and countless cousins, aunts and uncles.

There will be a Celebration of Life and BBQ on February 18, 2023, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. hosted by his family at 4231 Sirius Ave, Lompoc, in honor of his life, and family internment at Lompoc Cemetery on Monday, February 20, 2023.
