Obituary

Michael A. Mohler of Lompoc lost his courageous battle with cancer Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the age of 59.

Mike was born January 10, 1950, in Astoria, Oregon to Gus and Katherine Mohler. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1968 and later completed his education by graduating from Texas Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree in political science.

He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1969, and was stationed in Quantico, Virginia and Camp Pendleton, California. During his military career he serviced in Viet Nam, Somalia and in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired from the reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2005.

A Resident of Lompoc since 1984, Mike worked as a patrol deputy and bailiff with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's department. He retired after 20 years of service in 2008.

Mike was a member of the Viet Nam Veteran's Association, the Marine Corp League and the Santa Barbara County Deputy Sheriff's Association. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Susan Mohler of Lompoc, daughter Rachelle Mohler of Lucerne Valley, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Blake Hazen of Lompoc, son Michael P. Mohler of Pueblo, Colorado and his granddaughter Emma Hazen.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 10 am at Trinity Church of the Nazarene led by Pastor Duane Armstrong. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment.

In lieu of flowers Mike's family suggests donation to a memorial fund in his name at the Lompoc Community Bank. Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
