Obituary

Memorial services for Miguel "Mike" Galindo, 74, of Lompoc, will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Monsignor John Fitzgerald officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Vandenberg Air Force Base presenting military honors.

Mr. Galindo was born January 7, 1934 in Dawson, New Mexico to Juan and Benita Perez-Galindo. He was a Korean War veteran, and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 with 20 years of active service. Mike later worked for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department for over 15 years as a correctional officer and retired in 2001 as a Correctional Officer Sergeant. He continued to work part time within the department after his retirement. Mike loved his family, and was very proud to see four of his grandchildren graduate with college degrees. His favorite pastimes included going to breakfast with family and friends, playing poker, and was sad to lose Ocean Lanes because he enjoyed bowling and had at one time belonged to several bowling leagues. As a mentor, he worked within the Hispanic youth community and taught the importance of continuing education. He was also a charter member and past Commander of the Lompoc Valley American GI Forum and founding member of El Concilio de Lompoc.

He died Friday, December 19, 2008 at Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife of 52 years, Jennie Galindo of Lompoc; daughters, Frances (Johnny) Gonzales and Teresa (Joe) Villalobos, both of Lompoc, and DeeDee (Darrin) Burns of San Diego; son, Joey Galindo of Lompoc; sisters, Margaret Johnson and Becky Jimenez, both of Lompoc, and Mary Terrones of Modesto; grandchildren, Johnny Gonzales, Jason and David Villalobos, Jennifer Nunez, Zachary Burns, and Alyssa and Adryan Galindo.

In lieu of flowers, checks may be written out to the American GI Forum Lompoc Chapter, and mailed or delivered to Union Bank of California, 805 North H Street, Lompoc, CA 93436, Attn: Melissa Padilla.
