Sergeant Miguel "Migs" Grijalva, age 31, of Lompoc, California, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in Orcutt, California. He was born May 11, 1985 in Santa Barbara, California.

His smile and hearty laugh will be sorely missed. "G" had a way of making people smile. He will be remembered for being a caring and selfless person who gave everything to his country and community. Growing up in Lompoc, California, Miguel was eager to explore the world and serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps prior to graduating from Lompoc High in 2003. He began a ten-year career in the Marines when he fulfilled a lifelong goal of graduating from boot camp.

Throughout his career, he was stationed in Camp Lejeune, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and Camp Pendleton. He proudly served in four deployments to Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

Migs earned many honors and achievement medals while in the Marines including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Certificates of Commendation. After being honorably discharged from the Corps, Miguel sought to accomplish his goal of becoming a police officer. In 2014 he reached that goal joining the Lompoc Police Department.

Miguel was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his love for the Corps and country; for the way he made people laugh, his sense of humor, but also his love of sports. He closely followed the NFL and his team the Pittsburgh Steelers.
