Mildred Pearl "Grandma" Covell, age 90, passed away on December 12, 2006 at the Foothill Oaks Care Center in Auburn, California of natural causes.
A Lompoc resident and well-known local childcare provider since 1959, Mildred was better known as "Grandma Covell" by a multitude of children in the Lompoc area for many years. She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on July 20, 1916. Upon the birth of her first grandson Danny, she and her husband Wesley Covell sold their farm and moved to Lompoc to be near her family where she lived until early 2006. She moved to Cool, California to be with her daughter, Elizabeth Kelley, also formerly of Lompoc.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Kelley; sister, Mary Lee Williams of Lompoc; son and daughter-in-law, John and Georgia Covell and their children and grandchildren, Bill Kelley of Roseville, California, Debbie Brown of Beatty, Oregon, Danny Vest of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Pamela Marshall of Salem, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Heather, Eddie, Christina and Denise, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 9 a.m. with Rev. Dean Monkemeier of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Private inurnment will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
