Obituary

Mildred Dorothea Quetler Dier left this world to begin anew with our loving God and Jesus Christ, on April 24, 2012.

Mom was born June 11, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick and Caroline Maria Protzer Quetler. She was one of seven children, two brothers and four sisters. She grew up on the west side of Chicago on Ciscero Avenue not far from Al Capone's saloon and bookie joint. Mom always loved sharing her extremely interesting life with others.

Mom worked for the US Navy and other jobs in Chicago. At the age of 25 she traveled alone by train from Chicago to Southern California. That was the first of many adventures. She got a job at J. C Penney's in Laguna Beach, and found a house three blocks from the beach for only $25 a month. Laguna Beach was one of her most favorite places to be.

Mom's life had many ups and downs but through it all she always kept her sense of humor and quick wit. Her advice to everyone she knew and met was, "keep your smile."

Mom lived in San Clemente for many years and worked for Wells Fargo and the Bank of America as well. She moved to Lompoc 15 years ago and always enjoyed seeing the flower fields. She was a seven-year breast cancer survivor and again, her sense of humor, attitude and her faith in God helped her through the hardest of days.

Mom loved reading good books, good movies and music. She most loved spending time with family and friends. Mom was very patriotic and loved the American flag, but she never forgot her German heritage and roots. Mom loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. Mom was able to travel to Hawaii with her high school friend Jeanne. That was a lot of fun for her.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her two daughters Holly Dier of Reno, Nevada and Mary Tarver of Lompoc, her four grandchildren Daneen, Daniel, Heather and Hilary, and one great grandson David.

Please join her family and friends for Memorial and remembrance Saturday, May 5th at 2pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 135 South E Street in Lompoc. Private graveside services in Newport Beach are planned for a later date.

Mother, every day, all the time, I love you. Every day, all the time, I will miss you. Your daughter, Mary.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
