Milly Hilley passed away quietly, after a lengthy illness on December 21, 2012 at her home, with her family by her side. She was 82 years old, and lived a long productive and giving life. She was born on September 18, 1930, in L'Anse, Michigan to her parents, Emil and Olga Koskimaki.
After graduating from high school, she worked for Michigan Congressman John Bennett, representing the 12th district and U. S. Senator Homer Ferguson from 1940-1942. She then worked for the architectural firm of Nelson Rice and Associates in Los Angeles from 1942 to 1953. She met her future husband, O'Henry Hilley of Camarillo, California in the early 1950's, and was then married on June 6, 1953. Her husband's bricklaying business continued to thrive, and then opportunity came their way. In 1957, the family was informed by the Army Corps of Engineers that new building was occurring at Camp Cook, now known as Vandenberg Air Force Base. This announcement resulted in the family moving to Lompoc in 1958.
She continued to work in the masonry business as bookkeeper, and still was involved in the building business by walking the land together with her husband, asking and praying to the Lord if a building project was to be. The gift of prayer also provided an avenue for Milly to act as an intercessor for those who were in need. She completed her religious studies and received her title as Doctor of Ministries from Shalom Bible College and Seminary in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Milly was also known as Nana to generations of kids who sought refuge from life's tough lessons. Her home was considered a sanctuary to those who needed shelter, or a hot meal.
Milly is survived by, sons Charles (Ronie), and Timothy; grandchildren, Victoria Hilley, Timothy John Hilley II, Tatiana Hilley and Jonathon Hilley; great-granddaughter, Mckenna Hilley; and brother, George Koskimaki.
She was predeceased by her husband, O'Henry of 58 years, her father, Emil; her mother Olga; her son, Patrick; daughter, Ann; and brothers, Ollie, and Onie.
