MILDRED H. MUNDELL
1908-2008

Mildred Helm Mundell passed away June 4, 2008 at the Convalescent Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was born August 10, 1908 in Williamstown, MO to Walter and Edith Cecil Helm. The family moved to Oxnard, CA in 1918 where her father was a farmer. She married Henry L. (Bud) Mundell March 17, 1928, moving to Lompoc in 1941 where he worked in the construction of Camp Cooke. During the war years, Mildred was employed at Johns-Manville, driving a train in the brick plant, her husband working in his plumbing business. They made their home on their ranch on Campbell road, and in retirement, were involved in raising Quarter Horses.

She was a member of Miguelito Chapter of Eastern Star, Lompoc Community Women's Club, Lompoc Hospital Auxiliary (knitting over 350 baby sweaters for the gift shop) and she attended the First Presbyterian Church.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Barbara Cabral, Kathryn Hollister (Stan) and Donna Williams (Ronald) all of Lompoc. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Andrea Taylor (George), Shelia Gunter (Dan), Christina Cabral, Scott Williams (Debbie) of Lompoc, Richard Werst of Alberton, MT, Vanessa Werst of Kingsburg and Jeff Werst of Atascadero, and Melinda Cabral of Santa Rosa, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Mundell, her parents, her twin brother, Millard Helm, sister Muriel Ruggles, brothers Harold Helm and Chester Helm, granddaughters LeEtta Orr and Stacy Jones.

Following cremation, graveside services will be held at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Julia Leeth of First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc to officiate. Donations in her name may be made to the charity of your choice or Lompoc Hospital Auxiliary.
