Mildred W. Smith the daughter of the late Hess and Estella Watkins; was born December 27, 1922 in Concord, North Carolina and departed this life April 26, 2018 at Marion Hospital, Santa Maria, California.  She was married to the late Ray V. Smith.

Mildred attended city schools in Durham, North Carolina and graduated from Hillside High School in 1940.  She attended Croft Business School and North Carolina Central University in Durham.  Mildred retired from the Registrar's Office at North Carolina Central University after working there for twenty years as the Veterans Coordinator.

While in Durham she attended and was a faithful member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for 66 years.  She sang in the Senior Choir, was a member of the Daughters of Ruth Sunday School class, Secretary for the official family; MissionaryDepartment, Family Day Committee and Senior Citizens Club.  Mildred moved to Lompoc, California in September 2007 and joined Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church.  She loved and supported her Church.

Mildred W. Smith leaves to cherish her memory:  Daughter- Barbara Soso, beloved Cousin- Mack White of Durham, N.C., two step Grandsons – Cedrick Soso (Ricka) of Oakland, California, and Kevin Soso of Fairfield, California.  She also leaves numerous Cousins and her beloved Grace Temple Church Family.

Funeral Services will be 12 Noon Friday, May 4, 2018, at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Lompoc.  Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation hours will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
