Mildred Taylor
1934-2011
Mildred Taylor was born on September 26, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was the oldest of four and daughter to William and Pearl Walton.
At an early age she was an aspiring pianist and played both the piano and organ in church. She had dreams of playing at Carnegie Hall.
She married Edward Taylor, her high school sweetheart on April 30, 1955 before moving to Tachikawa, Japan. Millie became a supportive spouse and mother during Edwards military career. She gave birth to four children, Linda, Edna, Eddie and Glenn and made her home in Lompoc, California where she raised their children.
Millie joined Grace Temple Baptist Church and became a member of the choir, which became an extended part of Millie's family. She continued her love of music and taught piano. She became the first African American woman to work at Moore's Department store and eventually went to work for the Southern California Gas Company where she retired in 1991.
She enjoyed actively participating in her children and grandchildren's community and school activities. She was loved by all of her children, her Grace Temple family and the community.
Millie passed from life in the early hours of Thursday, December 29, 2011 with her daughter Linda and son Glenn by her side.
She was survived by two daughters, Linda Price of Upland, California and Edna Prince of Hampton, Virginia; two sons, Eddie Taylor of Seattle, Washington and Glenn & Rahcele Taylor of Lompoc, California; ten grandchildren, Camara Price of New York, New York; Larry Prince Jr. of Spanghelm, Germany; Lonell Prince of Alexandria, Virginia; Willie & Capri Price of Boise, Idaho; Melissa Prince of Hampton, Virginia; Bennett Taylor, and Evangeline Taylor of Seattle, Washington; Jasmine Taylor, Glenn Taylor Jr. and Jocelyn Taylor of Lompoc, California and generations of dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her parents William and Pearl Walton, her sister Dorothy (Dottie) Clark and her brother Jackie Walton.

The services and celebration will be held at Grace Temple Church, 201 South H. Street Lompoc, California at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Interment will be in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery
