He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife of 52 years, Claudina Hernandez, infant daughter Dina Hernandez, parents Rodolfo and Maria Hernandez, and brother Rodolfo (Rudy) Hernandez.
Moises was born in Santa Paula, CA, February 12, 1930. A life-long servant of the Lord, Moises was ordained minister of the Apostolic Church of the Faith in Jesus Christ in 1957. He served as minister in Apostolic churches in Santa Maria and Oceano until 1965 when he went to pastor the church in Lompoc. There he worked arduously along with his loving wife to purchase the land where the Lompoc Apostolic church still stands today. Moises and Claudina made and sold tamales to raise funds to build the existing temple. Their tamales, made with Claudina's secret chile recipe, were the favorite of families in the Lompoc community for many years. When the Lompoc temple was dedicated in 1979, Pastor Moises turned in the property deed to the Apostolic Assembly free of debt. He continued to pastor the church in Lompoc until his retirement in 1999.
Moises served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, deployed to Korea as an assistant medic. He then worked for more than 30 years as a member of the Laborers Union Local 1222. At age 55, he retired from C. Sanchez & Sons Construction of Buellton. Proud of his work and dedicated to his family, Moises taught his trade to his sons who would work beside him and who continue to work in the industry today.
Moises loved spending time with his family BBQing, fishing with his sons, and playing with his grandchildren. His biggest laugh and brightest smiles were shared with his grandchildren.
A celebration of his homecoming will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, January 22, 2014, 10 a.m. at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 500 East North Avenue, Lompoc. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary of Lompoc.
