Nancy Ann Brewton was born on October 28, 1933 in McVeytown, Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Arizona due to her father needing a dry climate for health reasons. Following WWII, they moved to China Lake Naval Ordinance Testing Center, CA. After graduation from Ridgecrest High School (1952), Nancy attended Shippensburg State Teacher College in PA for one year. Then one year at Antelope Valley Junior College, Lancaster, CA where she met her future husband. On to San Jose State College for her BA in education. She taught at Saratoga, CA and married Jeff. F. Brewton (1957). When he was drafted into the army (1959) she went with him to New Orleans, LA where she taught in the Franklin McKinley School District at San Jose and when her husband earned his teaching credential they moved to Lompoc and taught for LUSD beginning in 1964. Nancy was a teacher at Fillmore Elementary School for 27 years. She was active in the community but mainly volunteering at the Convalescent Care Center and the First United Methodist Church. T her family she was a loving, caring Christian who we will miss dearly. To her friends she was a joy to be around. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jeff H. Brewton, two children Jeffrey L. (Laura) Brewton and Lezlee Hurtado, grandkids: Anjele M. Hurtado, Faith G. Hurtado, Audrey M. Brewton and Jeffrey S. Brewton. Her wonderful friends, Abbie, Alice, Bobby and Pam were tremendously supportive throughout her illness. Nancy fought Alzheimer's for 16 years. She is now freed from the chains of her body that has kept her captive for so long.
A celebration of life will be July 25, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 925 North F Street, Lompoc at 11:30 am.
