IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nathan
Dewees
November 10, 1976 – July 5, 2024
Nathan DeWees passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 47. He was born on November 10, 1976, in Santa Barbara, CA.
Nathan lived in Santa Barbara until 1987, at which time he moved with his family to Lompoc, CA. He attended Vandenberg Middle School and Cabrillo High School. After high school, he spent several years in Lompoc before moving to the island of Kauai, where he lived for six years. It was here he was able to continue his first love, tropical plants. He continued to develop this passion at the National Tropical Botanical Garden, where he worked. After leaving Kauai, he spent several months in the jungle of Belize working on a self-sustaining farm. After Belize, he lived for a year in Costa Rica. No one could have predicted he would become a world traveler.
He finally returned to Lompoc for a brief spell before heading to spend a year in New York City with the second love of his life, Sarah, whom he later married. After a year, they returned to Lompoc and their families. He then worked at Allan Hancock in the Admissions and Records department.
Nathan was a generous and loving son, husband, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and friend. He genuinely cared for people and they responded by caring for him. He was always a gentleman to those around him. He loved his sports broadcasts, alien broadcasts, the Lakers, the Yankees, and the Dodgers.
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Dick DeWees; and is survived by his wife Sarah Alvarez-DeWees, his mother Jane DeWees, his sister Anna Chastain (Jeremy), and his nieces Emma and Madelyn Chastain.
His service will be Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 at the Lompoc Cemetery.
