Obituary

Neal Ray Porter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 73. Born in Santa Monica, California, to Burneal and Mary Porter, Neal spent most of his life in Lompoc, CA where he built a legacy rooted in family, community, and a deep love of sports.

He is survived by his devoted wife Marlene; his sister Vicki Enslow (Joe); his children Clint Porter (Veronica) and Holly Doetzer (Sean); his step-sons Art Velasco (Tristany) and Cody Velasco (Lindsey); and his grandchildren Alexis and Andrew Porter, Ayden Doetzer, Aubree, Gracie, Averie, and Kennedie Velasco. Neal was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lacey Porter.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Neal's passion, especially for baseball and the Dodgers, was infectious. He proudly passed that love on to his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories around games, teams, and shared victories. Neal was a member of the 1968 Lompoc Babe Ruth team that competed in the Babe Ruth World Series and played on the 1970 Lompoc High School CIF Championship team. His talent and dedication to the game continued as he coached both Babe Ruth baseball and Lompoc Girls Softball, where he mentored young athletes and shared his knowledge and love for the sport.

Neal will be remembered for his warm heart, his unwavering support of his family, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life, especially a good ball game. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.

A celebration of Neal's life will be held on Saturday, November 29th at noon at the Lompoc Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lompoc Babe Ruth Baseball League, P.O. Box 92, Lompoc, CA 93436.
