Obituary

Norble Leslie Derrington of Lompoc, California passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born on August 24th, 1930 in Evansville, Indiana to James and Versa Derrington. He graduated from Central High School in 1949 in Evansville, Indiana. He worked multiple jobs at the same time until he enlisted into the USAF in 1951. He served his country for 22 years in the Air Force and then went on to work for the V. A. Medical Center in Long Beach, California where he continued working for another 20 years. During this time, he earned his Associate's Degree from Alan Hancock College and his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska in 1969 being the first member of his family to graduate from college. He was a 63-year member of Freemasonry serving twice as Master of Lompoc/Santa Ynez Lodge 262 and received the Hiram Award. He was a member of Eastern Star, Al Malaikah Shrine, and a member of Scottish Rite and York Rite masonry. He worked as an advisor with the masonic youth organizations and received the "Cross of Honor" from DeMolay and the "Grand Cross of Colors" from the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Norble will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He will be remembered for his dedication to public service and his Country, and of course for his love for the gift of "gab". He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a fiercely loyal friend and he never met a stranger. Norble was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest brother, William, his twin brother Orble, and his loving wife of 64 years Betty Lou Briody Derrington. He leaves behind his brother Gene of Clermont Florida, his Daughters Jerri Mann of Lompoc and Merri Blodgett of Manteca, and his son Norble "Buck" Derrington II of Lompoc. He has three grandchildren, Mindy Blodgett of Yountville, Jason Blodgett of Modesto and Lori Mann of Davis, California. There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, November 4th at Noon at the Dick Dewees Senior Center. A reception will follow.
