There will be a visitation for Norma Stillman from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 22 at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc. The celebration of her life will be Friday, February 23, 2007, from 2 to 4 PM at the Village Country Club in Lompoc. Private interment will be in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Norma was born on May 1, 1917, to Frank and Margarita Bonazzola on their farm at Point Conception, California. She was raised and educated in Santa Barbara, graduating from Santa Barbara High School in 1936. After her marriage to Kenneth Stillman in 1942, she moved to Lompoc.
Norma owned and operated Stillman's Modern Cleaners on North H Street for 25 years, and the Lodge Restaurant for 15 years. She was a member of the Variety Club, a group of women who graduated together from Santa Barbara High School who had met every month since their graduation in 1936.
She was a member of the Alpha Club for over 50 years, a charter member of the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce, and was a past president of the Women's Division of the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce. She was a past director of the Boys and Girls Club and originated the annual golf tournament, which raised money for the Boys and Girls Club. She was a charter member of the Lompoc Valley Historical Society and a member of the Cotillion Club. In its formative years, she was instrumental in the planning and organization of the Lompoc Valley Flower Festival.
Norma was a founding member and a member of the Board of Directors of the Village Country Club, a member of the United Way, an active member of the Republican Women's Club, and was an American Red Cross volunteer at Lompoc Emergency Room. She organized Christmas Cheer, which distributed food to needy families at Christmas. In 1977 the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce honored her by naming her Lompoc's Woman of the Year.
Norma started golfing at the age of 45 and went on to become club champion nine times. She played in tournaments all over the state of California and was proud of the fact that she had seven "holes-in-one" in her golfing career.
Norma passed away peacefully at the Solvang Friendship House on Friday, February 16, 2007.
Norma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Anna Marina Stillman, of Lompoc, and granddaughter Aja Silvas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Stillman, in 1989. Her sister, Santina Porter, and her brother, Lorenzo Bonazzola, also preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations made to the Solvang Friendship House, 880 Friendship Lane, Solvang, CA 93463.
