Oscar Larry Werner, 67, of Lompoc California passed away last Wednesday September 19th at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. His wife of 34 years, Linda, was by his side as he passed on peacefully after a 3 week battle with Leukemia.
Larry was born in 1945 in McKeesport Pennsylvania to Oscar and Constance Werner. His family moved to Lompoc in 1961 when he was 16 years old. He attended Lompoc High School and then enlisted in the US Navy. Larry served as a medical specialist with the US Navy and served his country honorably in the Vietnam War as a medical corpsman with a US Marines unit on an extended deployment in country.
After the war Larry returned to Lompoc, and had a son, Adam Werner, in 1973. He started Werner Construction in 1977 and married Linda in 1978. Larry ran Werner Construction as a small town business focused on providing quality services to his community and meaningful jobs to his employees, many of whom are considered family. He was a hard worker who focused on doing things the right way with integrity and quality taking precedence over profitability. He was a trusted and respected business leader & friend in the local community. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father and his life is marked by a commitment to family above everything. There are dozens of men, women and children in the local community who have been grafted into Larry's family vine and his impact on their lives is something that will continue on. He lived a life of service and generosity, giving his time, talents and treasure to people wherever and whenever he was needed. He was a good man and he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his Mother Connie (94), his wife of 34 years; Linda, his son Adam & his wife Stacey, his son Brian and his wife Pamela, and those that brought him so much joy in his last few years, his 12 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks that you make a donation to a Veteran's related charity of your choice.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at the Lompoc Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 29th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial site to be determined.
