Obituary

Graveside services for Oskar "Tex" Johnson, 89, of Lompoc, will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Oskar was born November 12, 1921 in Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and became a central coast resident while stationed at Camp Cooke now known as Vandenberg Air Force Base. Tex was employed at Johns-Manville for 47 years and retired from their as a Leaderman into his 70's. After his retirement, he was a man that was always on the go. One of his favorite pastimes was to visit the clock and watch repair shop Once Upon a Tyme in Cambria. Tex was also a motorcycle enthusiast, and he liked to spend time at Gary Bang Harley-Davidson in Atascadero. Some trips up the coast included a stop at the Fat Cats Café in Avila Beach. Tex will always be remembered for a man who loved life.

He died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Lompoc Valley Medical Center.

Survivors include his daughter, Rita Timmons of Lompoc; son, Larry Johnson of Lompoc; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia who died in 2007.
