Pamela Napier Ledgerwood passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the age of 75.
Pamela was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 11, 1934 to Henrietta and Thomas C. Pearse. She grew up in Detroit and moved to California when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1952. She also received her B.S. degree in Business Management from La Verne in 1991.
While in high school she took ballet, synchronized swimming, played the drums, and held the role of senior class secretary.
Pamela was working at the Hi Ho Theater when she met her future husband, Samuel Ledgerwood, who was stationed at Camp Roberts as a military policeman. Pamela also worked at Camp Roberts as a clerk during the day. They fell in love and were married at the Congregational Church in Paso Robles on April 18, 1954.
At the age of 21, Pamela contracted Polio and was one of the few survivors of Polio with the assistance of the Iron Lung. She recovered and continued on with Sam to raise eight children.
Pamela loved the arts, painting, music, sewing, cake decorating, flower arranging, the outdoors and traveling. She loved her trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the Holy Land and Egypt.
Pamela worked for ITT at Vandenberg AFB and retired in 1996. In her life she worked for Lompoc Unified School District and held the role of PTA President at Lompoc Valley Middle School while her children were attending school. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served as Chair of the Presbyterian Women's Organization and sang in the church choir. She belonged to Rainbow and was a past member of Lompoc Valley Alpha Club. She was interested in and supported local community causes.
Preceded in death by her mother, father and sister Patricia Havins. Pamela is survived by her husband of 55 years Samuel N. Ledgerwood, and her children and their spouses, son Kenneth (Stephanie) Ledgerwood, daughters Laura Sanders, Deanna (Ron) Osborne, and Marjorie Ledgerwood of Lompoc; Linda Perry and Gayle Ledgerwood of Santa Cruz; Karen (Kevin) Baker of Pleasanton; Julie (Jon) Howerton of Clovis; and 12 grandchildren.
Pamela's wonderful sense of humor, strength, creativity, fortitude and giving nature were an inspiration to her family. She was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed and remembered by so many who were a part of her life. A celebration of Pamela's life will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church at 1600 Berkeley Drive in Lompoc at 2:00 PM. Colorful attire encouraged.
