Obituary

Patricia Jane Briggs was born on March 12, 1927, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the only child of Sadie and Wayne Pfrimmer. She grew up in the small town in Yuma, Colorado, where her dad was a rural mail carrier. She moved to Denver with her mother at age 13, after her father passed away from cancer. Her mother was a strong woman. She supported them as a driver for Lowry Air Force Base. Pat attended East High School and the University of Denver where she studied to be an art teacher. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Toward the end of her studies she met John P. Briggs, a student at Colorado School of Mines. They married in 1950. Their first year of marriage was spent in a one-room cabin in a mining camp in Holden, Washington. They then moved to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, when John joined the Army Corps of Engineers. They were separated when John was deployed to Korea during the Korean War. When he returned, they started a family. Their daughter, Jane, was born in 1955. When her daughter was young, Pat briefly worked for AAA Travel, enjoyed fishing, playing Bridge, Knitting, and being a Mom.

John was a mining engineer and traveled all over the world. In the 1960's, the family lived in New Zealand for two years while John helped build the Manapouri Hydroelectric Plant. Pat made many friends there and spent many happy hours fishing, knitting, and seeing the countryside. Her proudest moment was the 2½-foot German Brown trout she caught in the Waiau River.

After New Zealand, the family returned to Denver, and Pat was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She used her artistic talents and enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and knitting. She also enjoyed traveling and had many fun adventures to Mexico, Hawaii and the UK.

When her daughter Jane married and moved to California, she made frequent trips to visit and was able to be present at the birth of her first grandchild. In 1992, John and Pat moved to Lompoc to be close to Jane, her husband Carl and their growing family. When John passed away in 1994, Pat spent more and more time with her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as Granmom. She helped them with school projects, created handmade Halloween costumes and was a constant presence in all their sporting activities, school performances and dance recitals. In 2003, Pat came to live with Jane and her family and became even more involved in her grandchildren's lives. She was able to attend all their high school graduations and was always a welcoming presence when they returned to visit from college.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Schlosser and husband Carl, granddaughter Rachel and her partner Lauren, grandson Jacob and his wife Nancy, granddaughter Sadie and her loving grand-dog WallE, who misses her greatly. She is preceded in death by her husband John.

She was a warm, kind and affectionate person and will be greatly missed by her loving family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.  A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019, at 10 am at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, with burial to follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
