IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Jean
Gausman
December 26, 1933 – November 18, 2023
Patricia Jean Gausman was born to Robert and Grace Yuengling in Montclair, New Jersey on December 26, 1933.
Patricia and her younger brother Ron lost their mother at an early age. After a few years, Robert remarried, and Patricia was blessed with two more younger brothers, Robert and Fred.
Patricia loved her stepmother, Catherine "Kay" dearly, enjoying mother-daughter vacations into their seventies.
Patricia was raised in East Orange, New Jersey, graduating from East Orange High School in 1951. She continued her education by becoming a registered nurse. She graduated from Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She enjoyed and was adept at her nursing career as an emergency room RN.
Patricia was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, New Jersey as a choir member and a Sunday school teacher. She met her future husband Bill at Orange Memorial Hospital. They were married on June 22, 1957, at First Presbyterian Church of Orange. Patricia and Bill both worked at Newton Hospital in New Jersey. From there they both began working at Riverside General Hospital where they lived in Arlington, California. Bill completed his residency while Pat continued her nursing career.
They spent their free weekends exploring the West Coast of California, where in 1960 Patricia and Bill decided to settle in Lompoc. The team of Patricia and Dr. Bill opened their first office in a small house on East Ocean. During the day it was a doctor's office and at night they would drag the mattress in from outside and it was their home.
Money was tight but love conquers all, and life flourished. Soon they had a daughter Grace to take more of Pat's energy. Once Valley Medical Group was formed Patricia worked at Lompoc Hospital as a private nurse. Eventually, she became a wonderful full-time homemaker for her daughter Grace and son William, III.
Patricia pursued many other activities including membership in the Children's Home Society, member of the deacons and of the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc, a member of Toastmasters, and a member of something very dear to her heart, CAPA, County Animal Placement Association, for many years. Patricia volunteered at the animal shelter, working diligently to find loving homes for many lost, abandoned, and lonely cats and dogs that came into the shelter.
When young Bill married the love of his life Jenna, Patricia was thrilled! Within a few years, she was very happy to be called "Grandma" by her grandsons Liam and Nate. Patricia always wished they lived closer so she could enjoy their visits more often.
Patricia leaves behind her dedicated and loving husband Bill of 66 years, her daughter Grace, her son Bill III, daughter-in-law Jenna, grandsons Liam and Nate, her brother Robert and his wife Chris, nephews Kurt (Marty) and Mark (Erica), grand nieces Anneka and Aria, grandnephew Zachary and Pat's brother Fred.
Patricia was a very sweet woman who is sorely missed by her family and friends. Although our life has lost sparkles, Heaven has gained a star!
