IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia "Pat"
Gill
December 20, 1949 – May 13, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia "Pat" Gill. Born in 1949, Pat died peacefully on May 13, 2025 after leading a fulfilling and vibrant life. She was 75 years old. There will be a celebration of life in Lompoc, California on June 28, 2025.
Pat is survived by her devoted husband, R.C. "Chuck" Gerber, and their loving daughter, Dana Gerber-Margie. Her memory will also be honored by her brothers, Michael Gill and Jim Gill, and sister, Mary Jo Gill. Pat will be warmly remembered by her son-in-law, Derek Gerber-Margie, and her cherished granddaughter, Lyra Gerber-Margie.
Pat is predeceased by her parents Francis Xavier Gill and Rosemary Gill. She was also grieved earlier by the loss of her siblings, Mary Eileen Gill, Francis Xavier Gill Jr, and Maureen Gill.
Pat was a strong, resilient, smart, well-informed and brave woman, unless it meant living in a place with snowstorms.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Pat made her way to Lompoc via New York, Montecito, Lake Tahoe, and Los Angeles. She graduated from Grand Island, New York, and left behind a close cohort of 1968 grads. She kept in touch with many of her high school friends, and worked hard to find as many people as possible for their reunions.
Pat graduated with an associate of arts degree in buying and merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology out of New York City. Looking for adventure, she traveled with a friend to Montecito, California, then she found herself in Lake Tahoe. She fell in love with Chuck watching him play softball, and moved to Hollywood once she realized there was snow in Lake Tahoe. Through LA City College, she became a nurse in 1983 during the AIDS crisis, losing many dear friends and neighbors to the horrible disease.
Pat and Chuck married in 1980 at the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple in Pasadena, CA, followed by a beautiful, colorful, and spirited celebration in their friends' backyard. They welcomed Dana to the world in December 1986 in Hollywood, earning them a baby onesie "A Star is Born." When Chuck got a new job, the family moved to Lompoc, California. Pat wasn't thrilled about living away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, but she made a life volunteering, gardening, raising her child and her friends, and designing houses for fun.
With help from her brother-in-law, she had redesigned first a house in Mount Washington, Los Angeles, and then a house in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. She continued with designing and redesigning the house in Lompoc, and now we consider the house itself a memorial to Pat.
Then on June 30, 2017, everything changed in an instant. Undiagnosed throat cancer shocked us all, and subsequent treatments slowly but surely took everything from her. Losing her senses one by one, eventually she slowed down so much that life completely ebbed away from her. There was just nothing left after she tried for so long. We will miss her so much. Please appreciate the time and health you have left to spend.
In remembrance of Pat, and in lieu of flowers, donations are kindly being accepted for the American Cancer Society and the PBS Foundation. Your gestures of support can further the causes that Pat held near to her heart. Donations can be made through https://everloved.com/life-of/patricia-gill/donate/
Pat's passing leaves a void in many hearts, but her legacy continues to shine through her family and her contributions to the community. Her memory will forever be a beacon of love, creativity, and kindness.
