After valiantly battling numerous illnesses with strength, grace, and an unshakable positive spirit, Patricia A. “Patti” Shiflet passed peacefully on February 4, 2026, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, with her devoted husband, Derril, by her side. She was 76 years old.
Patty was born on April 15, 1949, in Chestertown, Maryland. In 1956, her family moved to Pennsylvania, and just a year later they packed up the old Nash and drove west to California. After time spent in Los Angeles County, the family settled in Lompoc in 1962, where they hand-built a home on 10 acres—a place that reflected Patti’s lifelong love of nature and freedom.
She attended Lompoc High School, where she proudly twirled baton, and later earned her associate’s degree from Allan Hancock College. Patti worked as an insurance agent at Cal-Farm and Tolman Walker for over 40 years where she was known for her organization, reliability, and genuine care for people.
In 1986, Patty met the love of her life, Derril Shiflet. They were married on December 15,1989, and shared 36 wonderful years together built on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Patty’s greatest joy was s her family, friends, and the community she loved so deeply. She enjoyed gardening, camping, motorcycle rides (especially to Schidek), her beloved cats, chili cook-offs, and making her families limoncello. She gave generously of her time through the Lompoc Hospital as well as held the positions of president of the Lompoc Flower Festival Association, Senior Regent of the Lompoc Moose Lodge, and DAT Supervisor for the American Red Cross.
Known for never missing an occasion to send a card, her holiday earrings, themed outfits, Patty made everyone feel remembered and celebrated. Whether handing out Easter baskets dressed as the Easter Bunny or simply offering encouragement, her warmth, organization, perseverance, and positivity left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
Patty is lovingly remembered by her dedicated husband of 36 years, Derril Shiflet; her stepson, Derril Shiflet Jr. and Rosa; her granddaughter, Katie Shiflet; her brother, Leroy “Bud” Voelker; her niece, Paula Parisotto and Fausto; her great-nephews, Brandon Montano and Maila, and Cody Montano and Charlie; and her great-great-nephews and nieces, Beau, Maddie, Hailey, and a baby expected June, 2026; numerous additional family members and long-time friends.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Lompoc Cemetery, 600 South C Street, Lompoc, California, 93436 on March 4th, 2026, at 10AM. A celebration of Patti’s life will follow at the Lompoc Elks Lodge No. 2274, 905 East Ocean Avenue, Lompoc, California, 93436 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patti’s honor to the American Red Cross.
